Shift4 Security Policy

  1. Shift4 will NEVER ask for your username and password over the phone or as an Email information request.
  2. Shift4 will NEVER send you an Email instructing you to go to another web site and use or register your username and password.
  3. Shift4 will NEVER release username or password information to anyone for any reason.
  4. Shift4 will change the Primary Account Administrator password to a predefined password on account setup upon the written request of the merchant. This is considered a last resort fall back in the event that the Primary Account Administrator password is lost. The password should be changed immediately upon logging on.

Good Security Practice

  1. All passwords should be at least 8 characters in length and we recommend using a combination of letters (both upper and lower case), numbers and punctuation marks (remember, passwords are case sensitive).
  2. Passwords should NEVER be the same as the username and passwords should NEVER be less than 4 characters in length.
  3. Change your default Primary Account Administrator password immediately upon account setup. This password should be written down and stored in a vault or other secure location and the Primary Account Administrator should only be used for adding or deleting administrator users and modifying any of the account settings.
  4. Setup administrator users immediately upon account setup.
  5. Everyone using the system should have their own user login and password. Logins and passwords should never be shared.
  6. NEVER give your password to anyone via any means.
  7. Everyone using the system should get into a habit of changing their password regularly. We recommend at least once per month.
  8. Always logout.

If you have an authenticator attached to your account and the device it was running on was lost, stolen, sent through the washer, etc., you will need to provide the authentication reset code that was issued to you when you set up the authenticator.
